We already covered what Brazil’s requirements are for entering the country. The best part is that by June 2019, you won’t need a visa to visit Brazil as a US citizen. That means it’s the perfect time to plan a trip from the US and redeem miles to get to Brazil.
This is your guide to the best mileage redemptions for the beautiful beaches of Rio, bustling metropolis of Sao Paolo, and the Afro-Brazilian culture of Salvador.
Side Note: For years, I’ve used Juicy Miles to book my flights when I book using points or miles. It’s a great resource, and they now even have a self-service tool to search for award redemptions. Here’s what I found out when I inquired about getting to Brazil both in economy and business class.
Economy Class: Best Options For Redeeming Miles To Brazil
Unless otherwise noted, all miles required are for one-way flights between the US and Brazil.
Alaska Mileage Plan
- Redeem 20,000 Alaska miles one-way on American Airlines flights specifically to Manaus, which is a jumping off point for the Amazon (all other Brazilian destinations will cost more miles)
- Transfer to Alaska Mileage Plan from Marriott Bonvoy
- Earn Marriott Bonvoy Points: Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Visa Signature Card
Note: You cannot redeem Alaska miles for LATAM flights to Brazil because Alaska’s legacy partner is with LAN. Alaska only has access to former LAN flights but not former TAN flights. If a flight number has “JJ” next to it, then it’s not redeemable using Alaska miles.
Etihad Guest

The Upshot
Virgin Atlantic remains a gem hidden in plain sight with a roundtrip flight from the US to Brazil on Delta One’s business class for just 90,000 Flying Club miles. 30,000 Alaska miles on American business class to Manaus is also a solid deal. And for economy, 20,000 Etihad miles is a great option to get anywhere in Brazil on American.
While not the complete list of all redemptions to Brazil, these are the points and miles programs that provide the best overall value. Even better, all of these awards can be booked through transferable points which is the beauty of credit card rewards.

During off-peak season the economy milesAAver price for AA flights from USA to Manaus is 17,500. I’ve flown this route in the past and enjoyed it a lot!
Thanks for adding that to the options, Joey. Good to know!
