Sweet Spots: Redeeming Hyatt Points (Europe, Africa & The Middle East)

by Anna

Just like airlines, hotel award charts also have their sweet spots. I love Hyatt hotels because of their very reasonable redemption rates.

The award chart is simple and straightforward, and there are no peak and off peak rates (I am looking at you, Marriott). And unlike Hilton, they don’t hide the award chart and don’t have dynamic pricing.

Part 1 looked at Hyatt sweet spots in North America, Caribbean, Central America, and South America. Part 2 looks at my favorite places to redeem Hyatt points in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

The Hyatt Sweet Spots To Take Advantage Of

I found a few really exceptional Hyatt redemptions or “sweet spots” in different regions of the world. This list is by no means exhaustive, but are just some of my favorites.

You can stay at expensive cities like Seattle and Vancouver for as little as 12,000 points per night. In London, where pretty much all decent hotels are either expensive or very expensive, it’s possible to find a room at the fabulous Andaz London Liverpool Street for 20,000 points per night (cash rates go up to $700/night). And Hyatt all-inclusive resorts are only 20,000-25,000 points per night.

When you redeem Hyatt points, you don’t need to pay taxes and resort fees. If you are paying cash, these extra charges can add $50 or more to the cost of your hotel room.

And the program keeps getting better and better. With the addition of Small Luxury Hotels, Thompson Hotels, Alila, and Joie de Vivre brands, there are even more great ways to redeem your World of Hyatt points.

How To Earn Hyatt Points

It’s fairly easy to earn Hyatt points. A new World of Hyatt Credit Card comes with a generous 50,000 bonus points, enough  to cover a few nights at some really great hotels. The card also comes with a free night each card anniversary that can be used at Hyatt properties up to Category 4.

Chase Ultimate Rewards points, earned through cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Sapphire Reserve, transfer instantly to World of Hyatt.

Redeem Hyatt Points: Europe Sweet Spots

Italy

  • Hotel de la Ville, Monza – Category 3 (12,000 points).
Located in Northern Italy, this hotel is old world grandeur through and through for just 12,000 points.

United Kingdom

  • Andaz London Liverpool Street –  Category 6 (25,000 points).
  • Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill –  Category 6 (25,000 points).

These two hotels aren’t exactly a bargain at 25,000 points but considering that rates at these properties often hover around $500 a night, and go much higher in peak season, this is a good deal.

Greece

  • Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki – Category 2 (8,000 points).
  • Grand Hyatt Athens – Category 3 (12,000 points).

Turkey

  • Nish Palas Istanbul – Category 2 (8,000 points).
The Nish Palas is a small boutique-like property with just 45 rooms. I love that this small hotel is part of World of Hyatt and I can use my points there. I really enjoy staying at smaller hotels in historic neighborhoods.

  • Hyatt Regency Aqaba Ayla – Category 3 (12,000 points).
It’s pretty easy to cross from Aqaba to the Israeli city of Eilat. You can take taxis or book a shuttle and visit two Red Sea resort towns on one trip.

United Arab Emirates
