Ted Cruz Pictured Not Wearing A Mask On American Flight Or At Boarding Gate

by Zoe

Senator Ted Cruz is getting heat for not wearing a mask during a Sunday American Airlines flight. A staffer at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee shared the photo. He also snapped a photo of Cruz at the gate sans-mask. The senator’s office claims he was not wearing a mask because he was drinking coffee, though there is no mask in sight and American recommends pulling down your mask briefly to drink.

Cruz was caught late last month wearing no mask in a DC airport as well.  American’s twitter confirms they are looking into the issue – “We are committed to protecting the health and safety of all customers, and we are reviewing the details of this matter.”

It’s real easy folks, if you want to get back to semi-normal travel, wear a mask for everyone’s protection. There’s nothing controversial about it.

Cup of coffee in his hand = drinking. From AA.com – “Your face covering may be removed to eat or drink, but please put it back on when you’re done.” Non-issue. Move on.

The fact that a democratic staffer shared it made it political in nature and therefore unfit for a travel blog. I ate peanuts at the gate AND on my flight to CUN, the horror. Maybe the mask shaming only matters when it is politicians.

@Ken – It doesn’t matter who shared it, this is not a political issue. I’d be happy to post photos of anyone on a plane not wearing a mask as required by all major US carriers. I cannot wait to travel the world again. People not wearing masks allow for the continued spread preventing the rest of us from exploring. Our passport now ranks below most industrialized nations in terms of entry – https://www.passportindex.org/world-openness-score.php?fbclid=IwAR2sK30eehO1xYOh8mLCON2gP_SZ1wfbkudOKeL2HrndpqVMZNSiOWVHV_M

Why on earth would he wear a mask? He’s not retarded like the mask wearing people.

@Lisa – Wearing a mask is not a political issue. Wearing a mask helps prevent those who are infected from spreading the virus and offers protection to the person wearing it. That’s why he would wear a mask for his own protection and the protection of others. This is a recommendation based on science and facts – see here – https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2020/06/417906/still-confused-about-masks-heres-science-behind-how-face-masks-prevent. So I’d counter your comment with why wouldn’t he wear one?

Slow “news” day on the travel blog front I see. But it’s always a good time to vent your TDS by bashing a conservative politician when you get the chance. Such a shame that so many travel bloggers can’t control themselves and have to ruin the escape from the very petty politics most of us are looking for in our travel hobby.

@brady – This is not a political issue, wearing a mask protects you and others. https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2020/06/417906/still-confused-about-masks-heres-science-behind-how-face-masks-prevent

I swear he also didn’t wear a mask in bathroom or in his bed. what a shame!

@ktc – the bed is not a public place, but i sure hope you or anyone else is wearing a mask in a public bathroom. This is not a political issue. Masks protect you and others. A plane is a public place.

Does the party of the jackass have nothing better to do than bray over photographs that prove nothing? Where is the context behind Cruz sitting in DFW? We do not see the seat where his food, coffee or a mask may be located. Better the party of the jackass focus their cameras on BLM protests and statue toppling pictures where they are plenty of fellow jackasses not socially distancing or wearing masks. Indeed COVID-19 seems to be rising among the same jackass demographic that was involved in the protests, demonstrations and rioting.

@AlohaDaveKennedy – Again, not a political issue. Wearing masks protects everyone and will allow us to get back to travel normalcy. Did you know that both United and Delta have scaled back their recovery plans as the # of COVID cases continue to increase in the US? That’s while European carriers confirm their increased flight plans. If you love travel and you’re a BoardingArea reader and want to get back in the air, I can’t understand how you wouldn’t support wearing a mask.

Even these desperate travel bloggers have nothing these days than to push this garbage. Bravo on your strong effort. I hope it led to a few more clicks but your soul died in the process. Randy Petersen would be happy!

Sen. Cruz should consider being more cautious. He has comorbidity risks, certainly obesity first and foremost.

So a DNC staffer was stalking him to do this ? Does the Democrat party assign staffers to follow GOP senate and congressman ?? Who pays for that ?

AA has opened an investigation. Thank you for bringing it to others attention.

Sorry for these old white farts commenting here. We will have to suffer them until they die of the virus or old age, or most likely of irrelevance.
