I haven’t flown AA “domestically” in quite some time and I was really impressed with both the new plane and the amazing (yes, I said that) service on-board. I was also pretty excited when I saw a brand new 737-800 with Sky Interior scheduled for my Toronto (YYZ) – Miami (MIA) flight.
As an AAdvantage Gold member, my upgrade to First cleared 24 hours in advance.
The cabin still had that new car smell and was complimented by seats and carpet that looked clean and inviting, rather than old and gross. The updated window and sidewall design make the cabin feel bigger as well. The LED lighting system was used in both the blue sky and sunrise modes during our flight.
First, some info on the new 737-800s…

The new slimline seats were comfortable and it was very nice not having someone reclining into me. It was also strange to have a seat that felt solid and supportive…and not overly worn in…big fan of the adjustable headrests on these as well.
Larger overhead bins that open both ways…
In addition to the small drink table that pulls up from your armrest, you also have a shared small table attached to the seats in front of you!
New headphones or has it just been that long since I’ve flown AA domestically?
Normal power outlets and an updated customer control panel…
A word about the service, WOW! Double drink service before we took off – first OJ / Water / Apple and then champagne and mimosas. Breakfast service included a choice of a breakfast quesadilla or cereal with fruit. The food was actually decent, but the service was even better. The first class cabin was served in groups of 4. Each group was presented with their ordered meal and then the flight attendant came around with a bread basket (bagels or biscuits), OJ and apple juice service, water service, and then the bread basket again. Quiet impressive on such a short domestic flight. Mints were even passed out before landing.
20 minute early arrival and bags out in less than 15 minutes…AA really is stepping up their game!
I should also mention that there was the option to select your breakfast in advance as well (though you need to make your selection at least 24 hours prior to the flight)…
The one thing that didn’t work so well was the gogo inflight internet, which was a shame as they are allowing free movie downloads through September 30th…more on that in a post this weekend.

Hey, I recognize her (Kazumi Chapa) from the safety video!
That FA’s skirt seems er, um, shorter than regulation.
