On November 2nd, United eliminated their $50 processing fee that was charged for passengers who needed to cancel non-refundable tickets due to death, illness, or jury duty.
“We know that our frontline employees want to help our customers in their time of need,” Sandra Pineau-Boddison, senior vice president for customers, said in the latest United Airlines employee newsletter. “Eliminating the processing fee is the right thing to do and will create a better experience for the customers and for our people.”
American, Delta, JetBlue, and Southwest all have no comparable fee. In terms of illness, United doesn’t provide details just the language “certain illness situations”.
