NBC News / CNBC has an article out today on last week’s announcement of additional negative changes to the SkyMiles program (with quotes by several BoardingArea bloggers).

In the piece, Delta spokesman Anthony Black told NBC the following:

“Today no airlines tells you that fares are going up tomorrow or where the fares may change. We have announced that as of June 1, 2016 — more than 300 days away — the award price for some trips will change based on a variety of factors; just like they do today for revenue tickets.”

He of course didn’t mention that some changes take place immediately and completely toed the line on “greater availability at lower prices and 7.5K and 10K one-way awards.”

Today my cash can buy tickets on whatever airlines I wish to fly, so I don’t care how fares change tomorrow, airlines have to offer competitive prices. My SkyMiles, on the other hand, can only be used on Delta. Without an award chart, Delta can screw us however they wish.

cash is different than miles, i can spend cash on multiple carrier and for delta miles, i can only use from delta. that is why it is different. basically, you collect miles for a goal that is ever floating.
