Fox News, clearly an expert on travel, has decided to publish a list of the “Most Disappointing Travel Destinations on Earth”. The list contains many locations that may qualify as one of your favorites (both Paris and Bali are on the list). I disagree with the majority of these besides Dubai, which is what it is. I think most travelers know what to expect on a trip to Dubai…not to mention that it’s not a bad layover location when connecting on Emirates.
- LA
- Pyramids of Giza
- Stonehenge
- Paris
- Venice
- Dubai
- Jamaica
- Bali
Check out the reasons as to why each of the locations above made the list here.

I would agree Stonehenge is one of the biggest wastes of time, but hyped up like a major destination.
Paris and Venice are what you make of them, and LA isn’t really a tourist city. Bali maybe is overhyped a bit.
agreed, Stonehenge is a joke!
Recently back from Paris, and agree The Louvre is vastly over-rated and most people at E.T. went up, gawked for about 15mins or so and then stood in line to go back down. Versailles and Orsay (Impressionist wing) were great, however. Never intended to visit the pyramids based on a few people who went and said you can see them all from the highway, where you can just head back to the airport and head on to another destination.
If you think Stonehenge is “a joke”, then you really don’t get it at all. Maybe a little history and engineering education would help in that regard.
I didn’t say it’s a joke in a sense of what it represents, it’s a joke as an attraction. For 14 pounds, you walk around in a circle and look at a few rocks which you could see for free from the highway. No opportunity to get there at sunrise / sunset or up close unless you buy a much more expensive ticket. There’s a reason why they moved the parking lot far far away from the site itself and force you to take a shuttle now. People probably used to pull up and decide it wasn’t worth paying to get any closer.
Compared to Machu Picchu, Angkor Wat or the Pyramids, it is indeed a joke from a tourist perspective. Too much money and trouble for minimal return.

Really a matter of taste, after all. For everyone who finds Paris lacking, I’m certain you’ll find many more right at home. Now, for all of you thinking of naming my favorite destination # 1, please remember that Charleston,SC is really, dreadfully, disappointingly hot for most of the year.
