The World’s Longest Flights – How Many Have You Flown (I have 10) and What’s Your Aspirational Redemption?

by Adam

Update – I’m now up to 11 after my Emirates LAX-DXB First Class shower experience!

Yesterday I posted my first trip report, a review of business class aboard the Emirates A380 from JFK to Dubai, and it sparked numerous reader emails inquiring as to my  favorite flight of all time. As I thought about it, unsurprisingly the flights I have enjoyed the most have also been some of the longest, both in distance and time. These flights tend to utilize some of the newest aircraft, sport the most generous seats and amenities, and carry extreme perks not only on-board but both before and after the flights. I consulted trusty Wikipedia to find the full listing of the longest flights which includes 23 routes. Of the 23, I’ve flown 9 current routes and 1 of the discontinued routes. The exciting news is that this leaves me with over half the list to still experience! Which flight below would you be most interested in hearing about in a future trip report and which do you most want to take? Send me an email at adam@pointmetotheplane.com. I was thinking SQ 21/22 from Newark to Singapore, currently the longest in distance and time as well as a business only flight. Who has me beaten, how many of these flights have you taken and which has been your favorite?  It truly is amazing where this miles and points game can take you!

I did the JFK Singapore and it stopped in Frankfurt
It was actually like this
Boston-JFK-Frankfurt-Singapore-Hanoi and the way back. Not sure How I survived it in coach but I wasn’t happy even though Singapore service was pretty awesome

I did the discontinued JFK-BKK flight on TG. Decent flight, was sad to see them cancel it (as well as the BKK-LAX flight).

Does the JAL Boston to Tokyo flight make the list? It’s new so maybe wiki isn’t updated? I’d like to see you take and do a review of the Sydney to Dallas flight on Qantas. I’m planning to take the JFK to HKG flight in CX F in January!

I have done direct LAX-BKK on TG for 16+ hours but it was enjoyable in J.

@Rebecca: NRT-BOS will not crack the list.

The only one I’ve done is JFK-JNB and back. In coach. Ugh

I have done JFK – HKG on Cathay Pacific, non-stop. Even though its a long flight the time seems to go by quickly, as their service in the air is five star quality compared to other airlines i have flown.Did it in 14.5 hours in December 2011.

My wife and I did the SQ21, EWR-SIN at the end of March. Excellent service on board but, IMO the A340 is a little too old.
