Bad Behavior by Locals & Tourists at New Disney Shanghai, Defecation in Bushes & Vandalism

Disneyland is set to officially open on June 16th in Shanghai, but Disney Town, an area of shops and restaurants just outside the property, opened two weekends ago. The South China Morning Post reports that there have been numerous reports of bad behavior and vandalism.

There’s been a downside to all the popularity — vandalism and general bad behavior as tourists scrawled their names on lamp posts and other park property. Other tourists reportedly defied park wardens and stepped on the green, plucking flowers for photos ops. The park had to erect fences and try to restrict the number of tourists at popular scenic spots pushing to take photos. Other social posts from incensed netizens on Weibo showed people letting their kids defecate in the bushes, and others trampling on manicured lawns for photos.

Local media notes that this is the first Disney park in mainland China and that it may take some time for local behaviors to adjust to park rules.

  1. These mainland Chinese are giving Chinese from other parts of the world a really bad name. “…letting their kids defecate in the bushes, and others trampling on manicured lawns…” They are like fucking animals, no wonder nearby Hong Kongers (who were from that same country not that long ago) hate them so much!
