33 Amazing Airline Posters from Flying’s Golden Age

by Adam

Back in August, the New York Times had a great piece which included a slideshow of 33 amazing retro airline posters from Air France, Pan Am, American, United, Orient, TWA, Lufthansa, Aeroflot, Swissair, BOAC, and Continental.  The article was written as part of a review for the book – “Airline Visual Identity, 1945-1975”, a 430 page book that weighs in at 14 pounds.

…but the true size of its ambition is how it reveals the optimism of the Jet Age through nearly 400 posters and images from airlines like Pan Am, TWA, and United, evoking a time now seen as the golden age of flying. The most appealing aspect of the book is how it recreates that sense of discovery and wonder when flying was not yet a commodity — or a hassle.

For any airline geek, you’ll want to check out the slideshow and article here. The posters truly do excite you to get out and explore the world.
