It’s been a week of bad behavior for airline passengers. A woman smacked down a United Airlines ticket agent at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) and a Delta flight this week was diverted to Shannon (SNN) when Ralph Lauren’s niece pushed a Delta crew member in-flight.
According to the NBC Miami:
Shelby Henderson Griffiths, 22, was arrested on Tuesday after she demanded that the agent, Teresa Rodriguez, help her, and when Rodriguez tried to help her, she became violent, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said. Rodriguez tried to shield herself from the punches by covering her face, but Griffiths grabbed her hair and pulled her to the floor, authorities said. “At the time the suspect began kicking the victim in the stomach and legs as the victim laid helpless on the floor,” the complaint affidavit said. Rodriguez sustained several bruises to her face, head, stomach and legs. The Broward Sheriff’s Office claims Griffiths demanded Rodriguez help her with a query — and when the agent tried, Griffiths launched into the sickening assault.
According to Bloomberg:
The 41-year-old was convicted Jan. 8 of drunkenness and threatening, abusive or insulting behavior aboard an aircraft that had forced her Delta flight bound for New York from Barcelona to divert to Shannon in Ireland, Dublin police said. The plane followed established procedure in diverting to Shannon in western Ireland “to have law enforcement address an unruly passenger,” spokesman Morgan Durrant said, declining to comment further. Jennifer Lauren, who runs Jenny Lauren Jewelry in New York, pleaded guilty at an Irish court hearing, according to Shannon-based Carmody & Co., the firm of her solicitor Sharon Curley. She was fined 2,000 euros ($2,700). The diversion caused by Lauren’s outburst cost the carrier more than $43,000, according to media reports. The airline declined to comment on damages.
