I’m really not a huge fan of cruises. I’d rather use my miles to get me to a location, spend more than a few hours or a day there, stay at a nice property, and then if I want to visit somewhere else, I can work that location into my mileage itinerary or buy some cheap domestic flights. Anyway, several PMttP readers are big fans of cruising and so for them…10 Cruise Traditions that Have to Stop Now, courtesy of Fox News:

I’m no fan of cruises and life boat drills suck but they are essential in the case the boat needs to be evacuated. I don’t think fox should have included that in their list.
Personally I think cruises are perfect for large family reunions. It literally has something for everybody and when my family went on a cruise with my cousins (4 families of roughly 5-7 people each) we rarely had fights or arguments as to what to do, etc. since there’s always an activity someplace in the ship (we never got bored) and we didn’t have to be together until dinner time.
In addition, I think cruises are a great way for a couple or singles to get a glimpse of a new city before deciding they’d want to go back there again for longer time.
I agree with Dan that the lifeboat drill is essential.
Lifeboat drills do suck – until you need to board one. 🙂 At least you don’t have to wear your life vest nowadays….at least on the lines I will sail.
Dress codes are suggested (with some few upmarket exceptions where most actually want to wear one) – love your tux, wear it on formal night. Rather not, then put on a decent pair of pants and a shirt…or just skip the dining room. I’ve done both. Most ships have multiple restaurant options. I take a sport jacket and usually go open collar on formal nights. Sometimes I feel like a tux, sometimes I don’t. The beauty of cruising – it’s as individual as you.
I’ve not witnessed a baked Alaska parade in 35 cruises. Maybe that’s why my wife won’t let me sail to Alaska.
I avoid Bingo like the plague. But apparently, not everyone feels the same way. I guess those Bingo games subsidize 139 fares for the rest of us. 🙂
The singing – hahaha. I could skip that too, but mainly because I’m of an age that I don’t care if I’m another year older or not.
I think I’ll go search for a cruise to take now. 😛
I love cruising but I agree with many of these. Life boat drills are like the flight safety briefings. Most people don’t care but they need to be done per govt. rules.
I think it’s time for NCL to end the “White Hot” parties.
I do like the formal nights but it really depends on my mood. If I’m on a 3 or 4 day booze cruise it’s not needed. How about if we end the hairy chest contests also, please.
Oh I forgot one. Please, please end the art auctions. Thanks.
