Where’s The Most Beautiful Bridge You’ve Ever Seen?

by Shelli Stein

Sometimes you’ve been places, seen sites, or had travel experiences that are famous and unique. Thing is, you didn’t know this at the time! That’s what occurred to me when a friend sent me this article and asked if I’d seen any of these sites. Turns out that from the list of the 27 most beautiful bridges in the world, I’ve actually been to 11 of them! I’m no stranger to metaphorically crossing bridges when I come to them, but this list made that saying come to life.

Most Beautiful Bridges In The World

Some destinations are listed for multiple beautiful bridges. I think that’s amazing when you think of the architectural challenges of building bridges.

The article goes on to explain:

The idea of “beautiful bridges” might be unexpected. In the world of architecture, perhaps nothing is more utilitarian than a bridge. Indeed, not only do these spanning structures allow us to safely pass over a gap, but unlike some skyscrapers and homes, everyone has access to a bridge. And just because they are functional it does not mean they have to be ordinary in design. In fact, it’s in bridges that some of the world’s biggest architects show what their creative minds are capable of.

It’s fascinating to note the construction dates of the bridges. Some go back as far as the early 1400s and the 16th century. Some opened as recently as 2019. And we can assume there are bridges under construction right now that will challenge the 27 on this list for a spot in the years ahead.

Take a look at the list and see how many you’ve visited.

Maybe you were in the location and never even saw the bridge. Good to add to your list of what to see for your next visit 🙂

Final Thoughts On Beautiful Bridges

Sometimes bridges might not be beautiful in their own right, but connect two places with awesome beauty. I can think of many such examples.

Any bridges you think are missing from the Most Beautiful list? After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Those are some gorgeous bridges. I’m glad Venice got two mentions. It’s rinky dink by comparison but my favorite is the wooden pedestrian bridge in Lucerne, Switzerland. Parts of the original from the 1300’s IIRC caught fire but were later painstakingly rebuilt.
