An Emirates flight attendant was hospitalized in Uganda yesterday after falling out of an open emergency exit door on a Boeing 777 that was parked on the tarmac. EK729 had arrived at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda at 2pm and was scheduled to depart back to Dubai at 3:25pm. The incident happened as passengers were boarding the aircraft. At the time, civil aviation authorities in the country said that an investigation was under way and Emirates issued the following statement:
“The flight attendant unfortunately fell off from an open door while preparing the aircraft for boarding on flight EK730 from Entebbe. We are providing all possible support and care for the affected crew, and will extend our full co-operation to the authorities in their investigation.”
Local media is now reporting that the flight attendant has passed away at the hospital from major head injuries. Witnesses are also now stating that they saw the flight attendant say something to the crew before taking a glass bottle and jumping form the B777.
The local paper is reporting that “her knees were shattered and her body cut with broken glass from the bottle she jumped with.” Meanwhile, Uganda authorities continue to investigate the incident and issued this statement:
“A female member of the cabin crew appeared to have opened the emergency door and unfortunately fell off an Emirates aircraft that had safely landed and parked.”
The Daily Mail has a horribly gruesome picture here.
