The AirAsia QZ8501 black box flight recorders were located in the Java Sea today, two weeks after the plane went missing. Though the location is now known, the black box could not be retrieved as it is currently stuck between other wreckage at a depth of 99-106 feet. Divers will attempt to move the debris to access the black box tomorrow.

“The navy divers in Jadayat state boat have succeeded in finding a very important instrument, the black box of AirAsia QZ8501,” said Tonny Budiono, a senior ministry official. If Monday’s attempt is unsuccessful, “the team will lift part of the main body using the same balloon technique used earlier to lift the tail,” Budiono added.
