On a long-haul flight, there’s nothing more important than getting some quality rest, and good bedding can make a difference. They are also a way for airlines to distinguish themselves from the competition, and often a great marketing opportunity way for other brands.
Over the years, we have seen airlines explore these partnerships in creative manners. For example, United offers branded bedding and pajamas from Saks Fifth Avenue in their Polaris Business and First Class, while Delta has their long-standing relationship with Westin to provide Heavenly Bedding in their Delta ONE cabin. Interestingly, as it stands. while American Airlines partners with Cole Haan for amenity kits in premium cabins, their bedding actually come “unbranded.”
Well, that’s about to change. American Airlines has announced that they are rolling out in-flight sleep products by Casper starting December 2017.
Casper’s claim to fame is obviously their mattresses, which only come in one version and are rolled up, vaccum-sealed, and shipped to customers in a box. But they have also recently expanded into selling other bedding products, from sheets to pillows to duvets.
The full range of sleep products to be offered onboard will include a mattress pad, duvet, pillow, lumbar pillow, day blanket, slippers, and pajamas. Of course, not all cabins will offer the full range; if you’re flying Business Class on a transatlantic route, you’ll only be getting a pillow and the duvet. Meanwhile, for those in Business Class flying to Hong Kong, American will offer slippers, pajamas, the mattress pad, pillow, and the duvet.

American Airlines will also provide Casper in these selected routes, in addition to the traditional trans-continental and long-haul routes:

- Miami (MIA)– San Francisco (SFO)
- U.S. to Hawaii
- U.S. to Northern Rim of South America (MAR, MAO, BOG, CCS, CLO, GYE, LPB, MDE, UIO, VVI)
Given how old some of the duvets and blankets currently offered on American Airlines flights are (think pre-merger with old logos), this is a very welcomed change. I also applaud American for partnering with a company that actually specializes in sleep products. I suppose there’s a decent chance that Casper is just slapping their label on some generic products, but considering Casper probably wants their customers to explore their brand after their in-flight experience, hopefully this partnership translates into quality offerings onboard.
