In a special Eaglewire (internal newsletter for American Eagle see below), CEO Pedro Fabregas announced that American Eagle (the airline) will be getting a new name. Now, this is the carrier, not the brand. Confused? The American Eagle brand will still exist but will be used as the name for all the regional carriers now flying for American Airlines. Currently, American Eagle (the airline) does almost all of that flying. Going forward, all regional flights will be American Eagle flights in terms of branding (similar to United Express or Delta Connection) but will be operated by one of the multiple regional carriers. Those carriers will be the new American Eagle (whichever name they choose), Chautauqua, Envoy, Piedmont, PSA, Republic, and SkyWest. So the livery and branding on the planes won’t change, but expect to see an “operated by” sticker with the new American Eagle name or the name of one of the other regionals. Got that? 😉
