Stack Transfer Bonuses From AMEX To LifeMiles (15% + Extra 5%)

Transferring AMEX Membership Rewards to airline partners has long been a great way to utilize your points. Avianca LifeMiles has been one of those partners since November 2018. Earlier this week, AMEX announced its latest transfer bonus to the valuable LifeMiles program, with transfers getting 15% more LifeMiles.

I also noticed an email directly from LifeMiles about an additional 5% transfer bonus that is a promotion running though November 3, 2019. That means there’s the potential to stack the two offers together.

The AMEX Transfer Bonus To LifeMiles 

Normally, AMEX Membership Rewards points transfer at a 1:1 ratio — 1000 AMEX points = 1000 LifeMiles. However, from now through October 31, 2019, AMEX is offering a 15% bonus. That means 1000 AMEX points would get you 1,150 LifeMiles. Note that this is only for US accounts and transfers must occur in 1,000 point increments.

Avianca also has several US issued credit cards that are offering up to 60,000 bonus LifeMiles through December 31, 2019 (that’s 20,000 miles more than usual).

The Upshot

While it’s not jaw dropping number of extra miles you’ll be receiving, it’s nice to know there are two potential bonuses you can take advantage of. While the AMEX transfer bonus would be instantaneous, keep in mind the Avianca one is A) targeted and B) depositing your extra miles in early November (not instant).
