Emirates has been offering essentially the same pajamas in First Class for a few years now, and have been keeping more or less the same contents in their amenity kits for premium cabin passengers. But as the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Their amenity kits are filled with useful goodies, and their pajamas are comfortable and stand up to repeated washing.
Well, Emirates recently updated their pajamas and amenity kits, as well as their toiletries in bathrooms onboard. I just flew in Emirates First Class from New York-JFK to Dubai, and received the new range of offerings. For the most part, I think they are a step up!
I won’t write a separate trip report, since the rest of the in-flight service was unchanged. You can check out my review of Emirates First Class in the A380 from New York to Dubai here, and from Dubai to Singapore here. However, I did want to write a short post to cover my experiences with these comfort items, in case you’re interested/curious.
The New Emirates First Class Amenity Kit
As a refresher, this is the old version of their amenity kits, circa 2014. They have since updated their bags a few times, but mostly retained the brown color scheme, and kept basically the same content.
The amenity kits actually received a fairly modest refresh this time around. The kits now come in gray leather bags, with a few different versions. This is the one I received on my recent flight.
The Bulgari skincare products and fragrance no longer come in a red box, which I think was kind of bulky and unnecessary anyway. Instead, only the fragrance is packaged in a box, while the lotion and after-shave balms came slotted in the side mesh pockets on the inside wall of the wash bag. New to the kit are a moist towelette and lip balm, and the dental kit that now comes in a reusable case. Finally, they also substituted the deodorant stick with a spray. Overall, a pretty minor update.
Here is the female version of the kit, which further includes hand lotion, face lotion, and a compact mirror.
The New “Moisturizing Pajamas” for Emirates First Class
The new pajamas are much more interesting, in my opinion. Here are the old pajamas, which only came in Medium and Large, and were a set of simple long-sleeve T-shirt and long pants that matched the pattern of the pouch.
According to Emirates, the new pajamas are “moisturizing pajamas,” which feature billions of capsules filled with nutrient-rich sea kelp applied to the fabric. As you move above the cabin or in bed, the “hydra active microcapsules” release nutrients to keep the you moisturized. This technology purportedly locks in the moisturizer for up to 10 washes, so you can reuse the pajamas at home or on future flights.
This is really fascinating, and kudos to Emirates for putting this kind of thought into pajamas. The new PJs are also much more stylish than the old set, with a shawl collar design.
To be honest, I can’t say I noticed a difference in the function of the pajamas. But your mileage may vary here.
These new PJs now also come in Small, in addition to Medium and Large. And believe it or not, these fit even larger than the old ones. I usually wear Medium when it comes to T-Shirts; the new “medium” pajamas rested 6 inches above my knees, and the sleeves covered my palms completely. If you were swimming in the old Medium, I’d definitely request a set in Small with these new ones.
The new pajamas now come in a stylish pouch in felt, which I am definitely repurposing as a laptop sleeve; they fit my 15-inch MacBook Pro perfectly.
Finally, the slippers also received a refresh. They now have fuzzy insoles, with a small tag that carries the Emirates logo. Together, the new sleepwear and amenity set make for a nice set of comfort items for relaxing and sleep onboard.
Have you experienced the new comfort items in Emirates First Class? What are your thoughts?
