Going Underground For This Special Library

by Shelli Stein

If you’re the type of traveler who chooses destinations based on a specific place you want to visit, you’ll enjoy this story. Sometimes that special destination can be a World Heritage site, or a restaurant, museum or other venue. Sometimes the destination can be a park, coffee house, a bookstore or even a library. Yes, a library……..why not, right? I always visit libraries wherever I travel and am a big supporter of these very important community hubs.

That’s why this story and this library caught my attention.

Heading to Poland? Listen up!

Warsaw now has a new UNDERGROUND cultural hub. And it’s a library!

The Polish capital has a new underground attraction: the Metroteka. With over 16,000 books, fresh coffee on tap and a vertical garden, this library is a bright, welcoming oasis of calm in the hustle and bustle of the city.

To say this all makes it a very different kind of library is an understatement. Underground understatement!

Pro tip: Staying healthy is key to enjoying your travels. Here’s my SECRET, and I’ve even got a 10% discount for my readers!

This library project was inspired by similar projects in Prague, New York and Madrid. You can see why the Metroteka quickly became a cultural hotspot and local attraction after it opened in September, 2025.

Besides the huge number of available books, the workspace is an area measuring 150 square meters (1,600 square feet). It’s a unique library that invites commuters to pause, unwind, chat and, of course, read.

Pro Tip: Do you Pruvo all your hotels stays? If not, do what I do and let Pruvo monitor your reservations for price drops. It’s free and it’s the easiest way to save money on all your hotel rooms.

Heck, I’ve planned trips to check out bookstores, cafes, gelato, and special post offices. Maybe it’s time to head back to Poland and go underground!
