Two weeks ago I blogged about how my speculative reservations made just hours before the Hyatt devaluations on January 6th were somehow re-processed on the 18th at the new category 7 pricing of 30,000 per night. Hyatt quickly responded that this was unintentionally done for some members and that any guest with an award that was repriced should contact guest relations for assistance. Â I finally had a chance to do just that and found it interesting how the points were re-deposited. They were put back in my account as a bonus. Interesting…since these are speculative that means that I would most likely receive the full 30,000 back as well if I cancel the reservation, essentially allowing me to make date changes at the old rates past February 15th. Now I’m wishing I made some more speculative bookings!

Just my opinion, but I’m disappointed by your closing statement. Hyatt has gone above and beyond to award 8k bonus points for an error on their part, despite the error being corrected and the fact that you weren’t negatively impacted (not a bad stay, etc). Your take-away is that you should have booked even more speculative bookings, not gratefulness to Hyatt for their generosity. I can only imagine what Hyatt’s reaction is when they read statements like this… hopefully it doesn’t deter Hyatt from being as generous in the future.
Sorry, I’m off my high horse now. 🙂
@DiscoPapa – The 8K points were not a bonus for an error I experienced, they were awarded to bring the award price back down to the price that I had redeemed the award at. Their system incorrectly changed the price, and hence they corrected their mistake – not quite above and beyond in my opinion, they did the right thing and fixed their mistake. The takeaway is clearly a joke 😉
