Israel Physically Not on the Map for Etihad Airways

by Adam

Etihad Airways has no flights to Israel and according to their online route map, the country doesn’t even exist! In response, the New York Post wrote that the omission is just one of several ways that Etihad discriminates against passengers. Well, yesterday Etihad issued the following statement on the matter, “we do not discriminate in any way and welcome passengers of all faiths and religions, carrying valid documentation.” However, they offered no explanation around their map which lists Israeli neighbors including Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt.

This is common in Middle East nations. They don’t consider Israel as a legit country.
And if you have Israel entering stamp on you passport, you might get denied getting into some of Middle East countries.
Clearly, they do not like Israel.

It’s the flag carrier of a state that doesn’t recognise Israel so hardly a surprise. Not saying I agree with it, but it isn’t ‘news’.

I went to school in the ME(Saudi) for a year and the globe in our classroom had Israel omitted.

Well, not showing up Israel on their map is just Etihad’s way of showing dissent against Israel (for whatever reason), similar to nations putting embargo on other’s. Don’t think you should equate that to intolerance..

Israel is shown on the map, just not identified – why should it be when they don’t fly there? A little like US airlines not identifying Cuba or Havana.

@NB, true, they don’t fly to Israel, but based on the rest of their map, it doesn’t seem that that’s the reason they don’t identify the small land mass as Israel. Case in point, they also don’t fly to Afghanistan, and that country is identified on the map. They’re definitely singling Israel out on this one.

They can do whatever they want, we may or may not like it. Just cuz were Americans, doesn’t mean we should push our way of thinking on others. If you know your history, you will know “Israel”, was land taken from someone else, and given to another party. But hey! is all goood!

But when it comes to flying Etihad diamond or pearl class, you will jump on board. Double standard.

So what if they are singling out Israel? Big deal.

They don’t recognize Israel. Most Muslim countries, even the moderates such as Malaysia and Indonesia do not, except for a handful such as Egypt and Turkey (and even then, through much diplomatic efforts/wrangling such as Anwar Sadat’s concession).

Hence, they are not going to put down the name of an entity that they do not legally recognize.

It’s less racism than just mostly politics. China, for example, will not put down Taiwan/ROC as a recognized country on the map.

Also newsflash, Afghanistan does not recognize Israel too as a legal country. I’m sure official maps in Afghanistan leaves out Israel unless they imported in maps that were manufactured in USA (which probably most are at this point)

Iraq, Kuwait and Lebanon too do not recognize Israel. All countries that have been helped (or hindered at times?) by USA.

These kinds of comments from you and your readers are understandable having in mind how US media and Israel Lobby manipulate information regarding this conflict.
“Muslim intolerance” is attacked on every level, yet UN Report on Palestine: Military Occupation, Apartheid, Torture – Israeli Violations are “Deliberate, Organised, and Institutionalised”, are mostly ignored by US media.
These countries, omitting Israel from the map, do that just to please domestic population.
In reality, they don’t do anything else to confront Israely behavior, among other things, described in UN reports as an apartheid.
P.S.
What about next post regarding why the borders of Israel in US airline maps show occupied territories as part of Israel, although UN, or no other country has recognised it as a legal part of that country.

Why should they list a country they do not recognise???do American airlines,Delta or United dare list Palestine without being under the fury if some lobbies, most mideastern companies dont list it,not happy, choose other companies.

Why is this a big deal? Until the settler colonial state of “Israel” makes peace with its own violent creation and creates a just and lasting peace with the Arabs living there and their descendants, there is no reason for any civilized country to acknowledge it, map or otherwise.

It is not correct to say “they offered no explanation around their map which lists Israeli neighbors including Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt.”

As reported by the Jewish Daily Forward, they did actually offer an explanation. They say their maps “do not identify countries by name” and to demonstrate that they aren’t trying to subtlely deny Israel’s existence they point out that their website lists Israel “as one of more than 150 country options for passenger documentation when booking flights.”

Not surprised at all. That’s why people are asked to prepare the second passport to enter these Muslim countries if the first passport with Israel’s entry stamp.

And Arab and muslim countries did the same with Apartheid south africa while european and americans were turning a blind eye, dont be moralist, slavery, colonialism, occupation are just part of your glorious past and people with that stamp are not welcomed, you dont like it,stay away.

I’m not Muslim or Jewish, but I will say this: there is a reason why all non-Jews in academia, news, and everywhere else support the “Muslim side” of the story. You tell me how you would like it if a foreign power (like Britain and US back in the day) came into what was YOUR country and said “hey….so you know how these guys had this small strip of land like 2000 years ago? yea we’re going to have to give it back to them. kthanksbye!”

What would YOU do?
