Late last year Starwood announced a marketing partnership with Design Hotels, a collection of smaller boutique-style independently owned properties scattered throughout the world. Design has close to 300 hotels in its portfolio. These properties have been joining SPG sporadically over the last few months.
Last week seven more Design properties joined SPG, bringing the total number of Design hotels that are part of SPG family up to 32. Those 32 properties are the following:
- Gramercy Park Hotel, New York
- Hotel Americano, New York
- Condesa df, Mexico City
- Distrito Capital, Mexico City
- Habita, Mexico City
- Boca Chica, Acapulco
- Casa Fayette, Guadalajara
- Hotel Escondido, Puerto Escondido
- La Purificadora, Puebla
- Azucar, Monte Gordo
- Maison Couturier, San Rafael
- Tribe Hotel, Nairobi
- Ten Bompas Hotel, Johannesburg
- The Guesthouse Vienna
- Les Bains, Paris
- New Hotel, Athens
- Periscope, Athens
- Semiramis Hotel, Athens
- ION Luxury Adventure Hotel, Nesjavellir
- C-Hotel & Spa, Cassago Brianza
- Nira Montana, La Thuile
- G-Rough, Rome
- PalazzinaG, Venice
- Kruisherenhotel Maastricht
- Mainport, Rotterdam
- Grand Hotel Central
- The Principal Madrid
- The Cambrian, Adelboden
- Nira Alpina, Silvaplana
- Gezi Hotel Bosphorus, Istanbul
- 11 Mirrors (Kiev)
- Town Hall Hotel & Apartments, London
One thing I love about Design Hotels is that many of their properties are located in areas or cities with very few or no international brand hotels at all, such as the ION Luxury Adventure Hotel in Nesjavellir, Iceland and the C-Hotel & Spa in Cassago Brianza, Italy. Therefore, Design properties significantly expand the number of options where you can redeem and earn rewards points.
I have yet to stay at a Design Hotel, but many of their properties look amazing, so I am hoping to change that soon. Expect most of the remaining Design Hotels to join SPG by the end of this year.
[Update: Reader Bill has noted that Design Hotels still cannot be booked with SPG points, although you can already earn points and elite credit for stays at the aforementioned 32 properties. According to SPG, you should be able to redeem SPG points for Design Hotels soon, but an exact date is still unknown at this time.]
