Getting a Lyft at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) just became much easier for passengers and drivers. The company just announced that they would be expanding their designated pickup and PIN feature to the airport.
That means no more frustrating waits not knowing exactly where your driver is (or why he’s stuck in the same spot for the last 10 minutes). Instead, head directly to the designated pickup spot and show the next available driver a unique 4-digit pin generated in-app and hop in a ride.
A Great Change For Flyers
This is the second airport Lyft is launching this program at. They previously launched the same system as a pilot at Portland International Airport (PDX) in May. Uber also launched a similar system in Portland.
The feedback from both customers and drivers following the launch in Portland was overwhelmingly positive so it’s no surprise that the company is moving aggressively to expand the program so passengers arriving at other airports can benefit.

How To Get A Lyft At LaGuardia
When you arrive to LaGuardia, instead of trying to connect with your driver on the busy airport curbside, you can head directly to a designated Lyft-pickup spot in the Terminal B Garage, Area G. You’ll find Lyft ambassadors there who will connect you with the next available driver and send you smoothly on your way.
This follows the move of LaGuardia’s taxi-stand to Terminal A, accessible from other terminals only by shuttle bus, making it a much more time-consuming process (unless you’re flying JetBlue from Terminal A).
The company provided helpful instructions in their announcement.
- Enter your destination and request a Lyft ride
- If available, you’ll see the above screen pop up in your app. Tap Get code to opt in and get your unique four-digit code.
- Follow the directions to the Terminal B Garage, Area G, and join the Lyft pickup spot line. (A Lyft ambassador will be there to assist.)
- When you get to the front of the line, show your code to the driver.
Getting Rewarded For Lyft Rides
On the airline front, Delta and JetBlue have partnerships with Lyft. And you can earn miles on both airlines by riding.
If you have a Delta SkyMiles account, be sure to link your account with Lyft here. For JetBlue TrueBlue members, head here to link your account.
Hilton Honors members can also earn points from Lyft. Sign up at this landing page.
Bottom Line
This is a consumer-friendly solution to make airport pickups more efficient for both passengers and drivers. Lyft users can simply jump in the first available car rather than waiting and searching for a specific car.
Similarly, drivers won’t have to drive around and wait for a specific passenger. They’ll head straight to the pickup line to be connected with the next passenger. If it sounds like a taxi, you’re right, it kind of is.
We can only hope that Lyft continues to roll this out at airports nationwide.
Will this feature make you more likely to use Lyft when landing at LaGuardia?

And why not just take a taxi?
Greg, taxis at LGA now are ONLY located at Terminal A so if you’re not flying JetBlue, you’d have to take a shuttle bus to get to the taxi stand. With LGA under construction, that adds a significant amount of time.
Wow – what a cluster…
Was expecting this new pilot today but was faced with the same old stand under a tent routine. Did they cancel this?
