Rumors Not True – Delta Says “No Plans to Expand in Chicago”

by Adam

Delta executives were in Chicago last week to brief local reporters on the airline’s future plans for the city. Even with long established hubs for both American and United, recent rumors persisted that Delta was going to expand by competing on customer service and its “superior” in-flight product. Well, as per the Chicago Business Journal, it seems that airline is content exclusively operating service to its major hubs, including the current shuttle service to New York. There are no plans to expand any further.

Now that both American and United are enjoying record profits once again, neither carrier is likely to cede any turf to Delta in Chicago without a fight — which means it would be expensive for Delta to add new routes and gain significant new market share from O’Hare. The same is true at Midway (Southwest).
