I saved my visit to the Thai Airways lounge for last since it was closest to my departure gate. It’s actually connected by the elevated walkway where all the non-CX lounges are (e.g. the United Global First lounge, where I was coming from). Thai Airways operate a few flights from Hong Kong daily, flying to destinations in Thailand and South Korea and I was eager to check out their non-flagship lounge in Hong Kong.

The agent scanned my boarding pass, checked me in, and escorted me to the area that was roped off for Royal First customers. Seating space was ample and the lounge wasn’t crowded.
The agent presented me with a menu for a la carte items and informed me that I could also dine from the buffet in the Royal Orchid Lounge.
She offered to make me a drink, but I declined (hey I was saving room for Dom Perignon on the plane!) and simply ordered the Thai Barbecue Chicken, which arrived momentarily and was very good.
The First Class lounge had a decently sized seating area, as well as a self-served bar, a few packaged snacks, and an espresso machine.
I walked past the “Royal First” sign and went into the Royal Orchid Lounge for Business Class passengers to check out the buffet. The spread had the usual suspects: sandwiches, salads, and a few hot dishes. I tried a few dim sums, which were just okay.
Further down the table was an open bar with less alcohol choices than the First Class side, a selection of teas and a coffee machine, as well as…lo and behold…stacks of cup noodles!
I saw a fridge stocked with drinks and a freezer with Nestle ice cream. The First Class a la carte menu had Haagen-Daaz ice cream, though I didn’t have any.
The Business Class section had more colorful chairs.
A work station ties the two lounges together, but was empty for the majority of time I was in the lounge.
The lounge also had a single shower in the bathroom, which was locked. I already had a shower in the United Global First Lounge so I didn’t ask to use it.
Overall, Thai Airways has a solid lounge in Hong Kong that will likely please casual travelers and business travelers alike. The food and drink selections were good and the service was very attentive. Compared to U.S. domestic lounges, this lounge seems like a beautiful haven, but to be honest, nothing really made it stand out from the other lounges in Hong Kong or Asia.
