Trip Report – Adria Airways ZRH to Ljubljana (LJU) & Business Lounge LJU

by Adam

This is part three of a six part trip report from my travels to Slovenia and Serbia. This report includes my round-trip economy class flight between Zurich and Ljubljana, Slovenia as well as a review of the Ljubljana business lounge.

For those unfamiliar, Adria Airways is the Slovenian national airline and a Star Alliance member since 2004. The airline operates flights to destinations throughout South East Europe from their hub in Ljubljana. Adria operates one A320 and one A319, though the majority of their fleet is comprised of CRJ900 and CRJ200LR aircraft.

Boarding from Zurich was prompt and the cabin door was closed 12 minutes early.

The lead flight attendant was at the door to greet each passenger as we boarded. Once on board the Canadair Regional Jet 200, I found my seat in the sixth row. It was the classic CRJ200 set up with two leather seats on each side of the aisle. The seats were a little bit worn but fine for the 1 hour and 10 minute scheduled flight to Ljubljana. While I was in economy, business class was only a few rows in front of me and thee was absolutely no difference besides a curtain divider. It was the exact same seating and sandwich service, though each business class passenger was given a water bottle and had no one seated next to them (not sure if that was planned or simply due to a lack of business class passengers).

There were amazing views over the Alps for the entire duration of the flight.

There were two flight attendants who spoke perfect English, were very friendly, and served drinks and sandwiches. Yummy…

Some more incredible views in-flight…

The airport has some of the best views of any I’ve ever visited. It was a clear and bright day (though 23F) when we landed with gorgeous views in every direction.

There’s not much else to say about this very short flight. We took off almost 15 minutes ahead of schedule and landed 30 minutes early. The service was friendly and warm and the views in-flight and at the airport were fantastic. The return flight was much the same, we left early and arrived early and the view of the Alps lasted the entire time back to Zurich. I did have a chance to visit the business class lounge in Ljubljana prior to our return flight. There were some leather chairs (no power outlets), free wifi, chips, danishes, fruit, soft drinks & alcohol, and two refrigerators of “meat snacks” and “cheese snacks”.

Up next, Hotel Cubo, the W of Ljubljana.

My recollection of Ljubljana Airport from a trip a few years ago was how quiet and mellow it was; during departure you had to pass through a Customs Hall that was unattended, with a “ring bell for service” sign on the counter.

@Chris Bastian – Haha, yes the bell is still there!

I’m on an Adria ZRH-LJU flit next month. Did I read correctly that they have a one carry-on bag policy with no additional “personal bag/item” allowed?

Great pictures, by the way.

@John Grasty – That’s the official policy but we all had two carry-ons and no questions were asked, you should be fine. Spending time in LJU??

Yes, I’ll be in LJU for a week for business, then on to DEL to visit a friend for a few days. I’ve really enjoyed LJU, though I’ve mostly rented a tourist apartment on my past trips. I did stay at the Hotel Slon back in 2005. I liked it for what it was.
