Using British Airways Avios is one of my favorite ways to fly on American Airlines domestically. The distance based chart also works well for intra-Asia flights on Oneworld partners like Cathay Pacific and Malaysia Airlines.

Well, Chase Ultimate Rewards is offering its first-ever transfer bonus with a 30% bonus to British Airways Executive Club. Transfers must occur by 11:59pm on June 16, 2019 which means you have almost a full two months to take advantage of this offer.

In the past, American Express was a leader in periodically offering transfer bonuses to airlines and hotels. It last had a transfer bonus to British Airways back in the fall of 2018.

Transferring Ultimate Rewards To British Airways

Chase Ultimate Rewards usually transfer to British Airways instantly, and there is no limit to the number of points transferred.

If you are looking to top up your Ultimate Rewards balance and maximize the transfer bonus, you can sign up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred which is offering an updated 60,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards points. The Chase Ink Business Preferred is also a great option with 80,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards points after hitting the minimum spend.

One Of My Favorite British Airways Avios Redemptions

For flight segments less than 1,151 miles in length, British Airways charges just 7,500 Avios for an economy seat. One of my favorite redemptions (especially to escape the cold Northeast winters) is to use 7,500 Avios between New York and Miami. As an American elite, you may even get upgraded on this route by using this trick.

With the transfer bonus, that means a flight from New York to Miami (at 1,096 miles) will only require 5,770 Ultimate Rewards points to redeem.

LaGuardia to Miami is 1,096 miles.

If you’re a Juicy Miles member, the transfer ratio is already live and being reflected within your award inventory results:

The Upshot

With almost two months to take advantage of this offer, there’s plenty of time to figure out any redemptions that make sense for you. Let’s hope this is the first of many Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer bonuses to come.
