United is adding additional service (mostly on 777-200s!) from Denver and Seattle to Newark for the Super Bowl. For those traveling to the title game, United has added two flights each from Denver and Seattle to Newark Liberty on both Jan. 30 and Jan. 31, 2014. The 777-200 service includes the lie-flat BusinessFirst seats sold as domestic first. For fans returning home, the airline has added four additional flights back to Denver and three additional flights back to Seattle on Feb. 3, 2014. The return flights are a mix of equipment though mostly A320s with a B777 and two B757s as well. Newark Liberty is the NYC airport located closest to MetLife Stadium, where the Denver Broncos take on the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 2, 2014. Unfortunately, I’m only seeing one flight with Saver Award availability (one seat in coach and one in “first”) and that’s on January 30th. Flights are available for purchase one-way starting at $386 from Denver and $389 from Seattle. On the flip side, there are plenty of award seats on the outbound 777s from New York to Denver or Seattle for 12,500 each way in Economy or 25,000 in “First”.

why would UA want to release ANY award seats on this flight at all ? they would already be oversold just by the football fans alone.
I remember traveling to Jacksonville in 2004 and paying over $400 to stay at a crappy Ramada Inn in southern Georgia to spend the night. Presumably, due to the great number of hotels in the vicinity of this year’s super bowl, rooms (at the Hyatt Parsippany) are barely over $100 and award nights (starwood and hyatt) are widely available.
