United has completed converting earphone jacks on all planes from the old two-pin configuration to the new one pin standard, allowing the airline to implement new earbuds in economy fleet-wide. According to the Chicago Business Journal, United has been testing new earbuds with “better speakers and a silicone in-ear tip with improved noise reduction” on its B787 aircraft for the past year. The tests were successful and the airline is now rolling out the new earbuds on all United flights with video screens and tablets.
“We believe this new program achieves the right balance of an upgraded product, reduced waste and simplified provisioning.”
