United Miles on Sale at 100-percent Bonus: Offer Expires Tomorrow

by Shelli Stein

There are multiple ways to increase mileage account balances when an important booking is fast approaching. Sometimes the best and quickest way to top up miles for an award trip is to straight-up purchase miles from an airline.

Typically, buying miles is a mediocre value, at best, but sometimes bonus promotions get the value of purchased miles down below the value of the tickets you can redeem them for.

If you have United Miles and are planning an extensive trip, you might want to take advantage of an exceptional offer from United Airlines, but it expires at the end of the day tomorrow.

You can purchase United Airlines miles for up to a 100% bonus, if you purchase a minimum of 30,000 miles. The size of the bonus depends on the bulk quantity of miles you purchase. It’s possible to buy up to 150,000 United Miles, per MileagePlus account, in a calendar year.

I don’t fly United metal very often, though last year I did have a great trip home from Europe in First Class in their now retired 747 plane. Still, I use United to book a lot of flights on Star Alliance partners.

How to Buy United Miles

If you’re planning on utilizing this promotion, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Visit United’s Buy Miles page.
  2. Click on Buy Miles.
  3. Enter your United MileagePlus account number and last name.
  4. Select the number of miles you want to buy and fill in the required information to finalize your purchase.

Bottom Line

Whether or not you buy airline miles when promotions are running, it’s good to know about your options. We all like to travel more, for less! I keep a list of airline point promos handy to see if they’ll work for me. Remember, never buy miles without a near future need for them, but if you need to top up an account or you’re planning a trip, double miles is hard to beat.

Great post, Shelli! The 100% bonus is a decent deal for anyone looking to fly to Europe in business class on a Star Alliance partner: buy 70K + 70K bonus for ~$2,400 = roundtrip business class flight from the U.S to Europe.

Thanks, Sam. I agree. Math is my friend, and I’ve gotten great value from buying miles with offers like these.
