I am admittedly not a cruiser, I prefer staying at an island resort far away from norovirus outbreaks. However, others live to cruise and this list might be of interest. As ships can be days away from land, the CDC conducts an annual Vessel Sanitation Program exam to ensure all US standards (for ships entering US ports) are being met. It’s a 100 point scale and a score of 85 or below is considered unsatisfactory. TheStreet shares a full-list of the 14 lowest scorers in this year’s exam, we can include the bottom 4 below:
1. The Pacific Venus
Owner: Japan Cruise Line, Inc.
Score: 76/100
The list of violations here was lengthy, from a “reddish purple drip” inside the ice machines to handwashing sinks with the water set at 122 degrees, the Pacific Venus did not do well.
2. The Carnival Legend
Owner: Carnival Cruise Lines
Score: 83/100
3. The Regatta
Score: 84/100
Owner: Oceania Cruises
4. The Crown Princess
Score: 84/100
From pans “soiled with white debris [and] white mold” to food kept past its expiration date, this score might be just two points too low, but they matter.
Owner: Princess Cruises
