Asia Miles isn’t the most popular program out there, due to the pretty high award prices for short- and mid-haul flights, and a somewhat complicated booking process if you’re hoping to maximize the routing rules. However, the points are relatively easy to come by (they are a transfer partner with Citi ThankYou, SPG, and American Express Membership Rewards), and the program is pretty great for long-haul flights.
You can also sometimes find great promotions that can expedite your earning, like the transfer bonus in 2016 that essentially gave you a net 62.5% bonus when you transfer SPG points. This promotion was initially intended to run through December 31, 2016, but has been extended to February 28, 2017. Unfortunately, SPG is excluded from the extension. However, you can still transfer Marriott points to Asia Miles as part of Nights + Flights. So you can transfer 270,000 Marriott points (or 90,000 SPG Points) to get 110,500 Asia Miles plus 7 nights at a Category 1 – 5 Marriott hotel.
20% Off Asia Miles Award Tickets to Los Angeles and San Francisco
At the moment, Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles is offering a 20% discount on mileage redemptions on flights between Hong Kong and San Francisco (SFO) and Los Angeles (LAX), among other destinations. This promotion applies to Economy and Premium Economy; sadly, Business Class and First Class are excluded for North American destinations.
Both Los Angeles and San Francisco fall into the “D” award zone. Flights between LAX/SFO and Hong Kong will cost the following after the discount:

If you were able to get in on the SPG transfer bonus that ended in 2016, you are basically redeeming less than 30,000 SPG Starpoints for a round-trip ticket in Economy between LAX/SFO and Hong Kong. That’s pretty incredible!
For LAX and SFO, you will have to book before January 31, 2017, and travel between February 13 and March 31, 2017. You will also have to book the ticket online, and cannot go through the phone service desk, which will likely preclude you from maximizing the routing rules. The discount is only applicable to certain classes of services on some destinations, and the travel periods differ depending on the flight. Here are the participating markets:
