I don’t know about you, but I like to travel as lightly as possible. Frustration sets in when I’m traveling to a warm weather climate and I’m taking along heavy coats or other outer wear I won’t actually need or wear at my destination. I’ve got to take my coat off for security, stash it in my bag, or lug it onto an airplane when I’ll be landing somewhere where it’s 80 degrees outside. There has to be an easier, better way, right?
I know, how about an airport coat rack for travelers?
Turns out one airport in the US is way ahead of me with its brilliant solution.
Milwaukee Mitchell Airport features a coat check station for travelers heading to warmer areas!
Mitchell Airport says it is the only major U.S airport to allow travelers to check their coats. And it’s back again this year!
Milwaukee airport coat check service is back for a third year. Travelers can leave their coats with a friendly attendant for just $2 per day, or $10 per trip. This eliminates the need to drag along clothing you won’t use.
Apparently Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is known for offering innovative amenities for passengers. The airport is home to Renaissance Books, selling used and rare books; plenty of shops selling Wisconsin cheeses and cheese curds; the Miller Brewhouse, with taps that allow you to pour your own beers; and the Mitchell Gallery of Flight.
Seems like a great airport to spend some time in without having to wear your coat!
Here’s all you need to know about how the service works. I’m impressed!
Final Thoughts
I can’t help but wonder why more airports don’t offer this coat check service. I’ve been hearing great things about Milwaukee lately. A few friends have relocated there and are encouraging me to come visit. Looks like I’ll be planning a trip soon just to use this brilliant offering. Let’s keep the real reason for my visit a secret though, and let my friends think it’s all about them!

Minneapolis did similar before 9-11, you could check your coat, boots even! go to FL, Cancun, AZ w/o them. Our sense if that since in these airports the winter break vacayers leave their winter stuff in their cars, left in the parking garage. When you arrive home, one sucker has to go get the car while other go get luggage.
Thanks for the comment, David. And the laugh. I know what you mean about being sent out to fetch the car 🙂
JetBlue had this at JFK back in 2014 or so. Midway Airlines (when it was based in MDW, not RDU) had a coat check service free for First class passengers included as a Club amenity. They also offered First Class lounge access for all First Class passengers. Those were the days!
Those were the days, for sure. Thanks for reading and taking us down memory lane!
