Delta Way Ahead in May On-Time…and Taking “Second Largest US Carrier” Title from United?

by Adam

87.6% of Delta’s flights arrived on time in May, a full 6% higher than their closest competitor, Southwest. Southwest barely beat United for the #2 spot, delivering an on-time performance of 81.6% compared to United’s much improved 81.2%. American had 79.9% of its flights arrive on time in May.

The data was part of the May OAG stats and as per the Chicago Business Journal, the monthly report revealed another interesting takeaway:

…Delta is pulling away from United Airlines to become the second largest carrier in the U.S., at least in terms of flights operated every month. OAG showed Delta operating 163,125 flights in May, compared to United’s. American Airlines now is by far the largest of the big four domestics, operating a total 199,177
