We know that people are searching for travel destinations and Hawaii seems to be near the top of many lists. Well, there is great news for those travelers hoping to visit the Hawaiian Islands in the near future! Hawaiian Airlines is resuming service from the Aloha State to Boston and New York! Travelers seeking a winter getaway will be greeted with an expanded schedule in December. The fact that Hawaiian Airlines expands flights is encouraging for travelers everywhere.
Hawaiian Airlines Expands Flights
The resumption of service to these two important East Coast cities will bring Hawaiian Airlines’ schedule back to serving 13 airports in the U.S. mainland network, including daily Long Beach service, in December.
Service will begin with twice-weekly nonstop service between Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and three-weekly flights between HNL and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
Boston – Honolulu Service:
Flights will depart Sundays and Wednesdays from Boston at 9:25am and arrive in Honolulu at 4:00pm
Eastbound, flights will depart Honolulu on Fridays and Mondays at 3:30pm and arrive in Boston 6:00am the next morning.

Interesting notes: The BOS-HNL flight is the longest US domestic flight, logging 5,095 air miles and takes approximately 11 1/2 hours!
New York (JFK) – Honolulu Service:
Flights will depart Mondays and Wednesdays from JFK at 9:25am and arrive in Honolulu at 4:00pm
Eastbound, flights will depart Honolulu on Saturdays and Thursday at 3:30pm and arrive in JFK 6:00am the next morning.

Hawaii Quarantine Exemptions
The news gets better as visitors are to be welcomed with no quarantine, meeting entry requirements. Hawaii’s Governor Ige last week announced the 50th State is exempting travelers from its 14-day mandatory quarantine –with proof of a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours of the final leg of departure.
Visitors will be free to leave their hotels and visit sights on the island of their choosing. This is much better than the prospect once pitched of geofencing guests within their hotels’ property lines.
Hawaii Neighbor Islands Also Welcoming Tourists Back
With the announcement from the Governor, the neighboring islands also are welcoming visitors. In recognition of this, Hawaiian Airlines will also resume nonstop flights between Kauai’s Lihue Airport (LIH) and Los Angeles and Oakland. Nonstop flights will also be flying between Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG) and San Diego and San Francisco.
Hawaiian Airlines Partnering for COVID Tests
Hawaiian Airlines has partnered with the state of Hawaii and Vault Health. Using this service, passengers from any of the 13 gateway mainland cities can acquire a mail-in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) saliva test.
The test kit is available for travelers of all ages including children. It is express mailed overnight to guests who will self-collect their sample with assistance from a testing supervisor in a video call. The kit is express shipped overnight to a lab, which will process and analyze the sample and provide travelers their results electronically within 24 hours of receiving the sample.
That should make things easier for those wanted to spend some time enjoying the gorgeous beaches and waters of Hawaii.
Hawaiian Airlines made many adjustments to combat the spread of Coronavirus. It took steps such as installing Plexiglas dividers in its airports, providing sanitizer to employees and passengers. It also sprays its planes down in an effort to sanitizer the space. Hawaiian Airlines also suspended service to all but one mainland city in response to the State’s mandates.
Hawaiian Airlines Expands Flights – The UpShot
It’s great news that Hawai’i is going to allow travelers to visit the islands without a mandatory quarantine when providing proof of a negative COVID test. Likewise, the news of Hawaiian Airlines expanding their service to Boston, Long Beach and New York is encouraging.
As Hawaiian Airlines expands flights it is likely we will see the other major carriers announcing expansion of their service between the Mainland and Hawai’i.
