When Hyatt’s footprint expands, I get excited! As a Hyatt Globalist who spends well over 100 nights a year at Hyatt properties, and who reviews Hyatt hotel rooms all over the world, I want options. My options increased with Hyatt’s recent acquisition of Two Roads Hospitality. That’s 87 more Hyatt properties I can look forward to. As I scanned the list I was surprised by how many of these properties I knew. I’ve even stayed at some of them.
My Top Five Choices
In creating the best criteria to use in sorting through all the properties, I picked properties in places I actually travel to in the US and don’t currently have a Hyatt property choice I’m satisfied with. I chose at least one property from each Two Roads group. Turns out I might be partial to their Destinations Brand. I also noticed there are many great choices in snow country across the U.S.
Residence Wailea and Wailea Beach Villas, Maui (Destinations Brand)
Maui is my favorite of the Hawaiian islands. On Maui, Wailea is my top area of choice to visit. My favorite hotel, The Maui Prince, which some of you long-time Maui fans might remember, is long gone from the scene. Since its closing I’ve been wanting to find another property to visit.
I’ve walked by the villas property many times and the grounds are lovely. It’s within walking distance of the shops and beaches in Wailea. It is also a relatively short walk into Kihei for more beaches. Kihei offers plenty of restaurant choices. It’s nice on holidays not to have to eat out all the time, so these condos would provide more space and dining options than a traditional hotel.

L’Auberge, Del Mar (Destinations Brand)
San Diego is always a great spot for a vacation or weekend getaway. Del Mar is actually in what’s called North County and depending on traffic, not too bad a drive from San Diego’s airport. My guess is that this spa/resort will help relieve any stress, even from bad traffic!
You couldn’t ask for a more picturesque site than the one L’Auberge occupies by the sea. The site has quite a glamorous history and was rebuilt in 1989 as the L’Auberge. Its most recent renovation was in 2017. As a regular visitor to Del Mar, I’ve often wondered about staying here. I think I’ll soon find out. The town of Del Mar is fun to explore, and for sure I’d park the car at the resort and then not use it all weekend.

After staying at two Hyatt properties in NYC this past year and having such a bad experience at the Andaz Wall Street, I still don’t have a favorite Hyatt there. Three properties from the Two Roads Hospitality group jumped out at me.
Hotel 50 Bowery, NYC (Joie de Vivre)
The Lower East Side location of this boutique hotel grabs my attention. It does have one of those pesky destination fees though. From the photos I know I would like the modern room design with the light brown color schemes and wood floors. Boutique hotels like this, when done right with good service and a great location, can be wonderful.
This location would be perfect for exploring the neighborhoods of SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown and generally areas below 14th Street. I’m looking forward to seeing how this property is positioned in the Hyatt portfolio as far as how points and award stays will work.
Suite option at 50 Bowery
Park South Hotel, NYC (Joie de Vivre)
If looking to stay in midtown Manhattan, or what’s known as NoMad, I’d give the Park South Hotel a try. I really enjoy old historic buildings that have been turned into hotels, which is one reason I’m so fond of many Park Hyatt properties. The Park South Hotel building is from 1906.
Even though this location is considered to be on the east side of Manhattan, I love to walk and would venture west towards Chelsea and the great parks and walking paths along the Hudson River.
In typical NYC fashion, the rooms look small, though tastefully designed. I don’t mind small rooms if the furnishings are to my taste, the service is good, and the hotel location works well for what I enjoy seeing and doing. This Joie de Vivre property could be a winner for me when Hyatt’s award chart for these Two Roads Hospitality group properties is released.

The Beekman, NYC (Thompson Hotels)
Ok, I’ll admit it. I really like staying in the Financial District when in NYC. Maybe it’s the history, proximity to the water on both the east and west sides of Manhattan, or easy access to the Staten Island Ferry, which I never tire of riding. Staying in the southernmost tip of Manhattan and being able to walk to so many neighborhoods from this district suits me very well.
I’ve visited The Beekman lobby many times but never stayed here. Everyone I know who has stayed here loves it. Its history goes back to 1761, the nine-story atrium is world famous, and the architecture is stunning. The old world furnishings make me feel like I’ve gone back in time. I’m guessing there will be a lot of interest in this property once it’s placed within Hyatt’s award chart. I’ll certainly be interested!

Bottom Line
Even though the integration of these new properties won’t happen until 2019, I’m looking ahead and find that some on the list of properties being added to the Hyatt portfolio merit my attention.
This Hyatt partnership provides more choices for anyone looking to earn or redeem World of Hyatt points. You can earn World of Hyatt points with The World of Hyatt Credit Card, which is offering a welcome bonus of 40,000 World of Hyatt bonus points after spending $3,000 within the first three months, plus another 20,000 bonus points after spending a total of $6,000 within the first six months.
World of Hyatt is also transfer partners with Chase Ultimate Rewards, so you can transfer over points earned on cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve Card, and Ink Business Preferred Credit Card.
It will be interesting to watch this unfold, see how elite benefits will be honored, and the points award charts for some of these unique properties. For me, one major disappointment in this acquisition is that even though Hyatt is rapidly expanding, this acquisition does not expand Hyatt’s presence in Europe. Come on Hyatt, show Europe more love!
