Don’t Forget This Option When Visiting Hawaii!

by Shelli Stein

No one, including me, ever says they’ve visited Hawaii too many times! Yet it’s still a good idea to discover new and different things to see or do while visiting the islands. Here’s a suggestion for you that will turn your Hawaiian holiday into a totally different travel experience: the Malama Hawaii Program.

To encourage visitors to leave the state of Hawaii better than when they arrived, the Hawaii Tourism Authority launched the Malama Hawaii program. This program collaborates with over 70 hotels, airlines, attractions, and conservation groups all across the islands.

How the Malama Program Works

For the hotels, many hotel partners created Malama Hawaii packages. If you book a package and participate in the hotel’s designated volunteer activity, you receive a free extra night of accommodations. Sounds like a win-win and great deal in such an expensive hotel market!

Here’s an article I wrote about where to find the best coffee in Hawaii!

Activities offered as part of the Malama Hawaii program include tree plantings, beach cleanups, and Hawaiian quilting.

The packages and offerings are way too many for me to list here. I suggest taking a closer look at the Malama Program website to get the complete list of offerings. There really is something for everyone, no matter which island you’re vacationing on or which kinds of activities you enjoy.
