Thanks to reader Dino for sharing The Russian Abroad by Olga, a travel companion she met on an Eastern European trip earlier this year. Olga has compiled a list of the 16 Least Visited Countries in the World, though there is no source as to where she obtained her stats. While it’s not entirely scientific (and I see several countries missing that probably belong on the list), it does contain multiple spots I hope to get to soon including Mongolia, the Faroe Islands, Bhutan, and Madagascar. I think St. Vincent might also have to be added to my Caribbean island list. Check out Olga’s post for pictures and full details for each location.
- Palau
- Mongolia
- The Faroe Islands
- Macedonia
- Liechtenstein
- Moldova
- Greenland
- Madagascar
- Monaco
- St. Vincent and the Grenadines
- Bhutan
- Belarus
- Kiribati
- The Solomon Islands
- Tajikistan
- The Marshall Islands
Thanks to Olga and Dino for sharing!

While a fun list, it’s definitely not accurate. Monaco (on the list) receives about 300,000 visitors a year. Tuvalu (not on the list) receives about 2,000.
The World Bank is the primary organization tracking these numbers: http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/ST.INT.ARVL
Slightly unrelated question, but where is that picture from (with the waterfall)?? Thanks
@Brian – The Faroe Islands!
Palau is even limiting the number of tourists, i think this list is not even close to the reality.
