Travel The World And Eat? A Company Will Pay You $66,000 To Do It

by Chris Dong

Attention all travel and food lovers. A UK-based company is looking for a full-time employee to scope out new recipes for its line of products. Oh, and did we mention you’ll be traveling to places like India, China, Turkey, Chile, Mexico and Japan on their dime?

The Company

The company looking for qualified candidates is Vibrant Vegan Co. They sell frozen meals, but this is no Lean Cuisine-type of operation. Vibrant is a plant-based food subscription service that also incorporates a social good component to tackle childhood hunger. And yes, while their branding is a bit over-the-top, their mission does seem well-intentioned.

Our globally inspired dishes are packed with locally sourced, whole plant-based ingredients, as they taste delicious and are fabulous for nourishing your mind, body and spirit.

The Job

The job in question is a “Director of Taste.” This full-time gig comes with benefits, travel, and accommodation and pays decently too — a $66,000 annual salary (£50,000). The core part of your role, should you be selected, is to source and sample new plant-based ingredients around the world, and provide feedback to the company. Veganism is not a requirement for the job, but obviously your samples will have to be.

Other requirements include:

  • At least three years’ experience in the food business or as a chef.
  • Preferably a degree in Food Science or similar

The Upshot

No word on whether this job will have you fly in business or economy — and what Vibrant Vegan’s airline of choice is. However, since the company is a startup, I would bet you’d be sitting at the back of the bus. Probably on British Airways.

I was very interested in this until I knew it was strictly for plant based food. But I’m sure that significantly narrows down the candidates for them.
