A Look Inside – New Qantas First Lounge @ LAX – Tom Bradley International Terminal

by Adam

Last month Qantas opened its “First Lounge” at the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Entry is granted to first class passengers as well as top-tier Qantas and Oneworld members. The lounge has seating for over 200 customers, a 74 seat restaurant and bar, open style kitchen, Californian Knoll furniture selected by Marc Newson, a Neil Perry Rockpool-designed a la carte menu, private work suites, complimentary Wi-Fi and seven shower suites featuring Aurora Spa ASPAR products.

The lounge is actually the third premium lounge to open at the redesigned terminal (Air New Zealand and Korean Air) and Emirates also has a new lounge currently under construction. Check out some of the pictures courtesy of Tom Politeo of the LA Times:

I spent some time in the first class lounge in January, when I was flying back to Australia.

On the whole, the lounge was a nice experience, but…

There were teething problems with the kitchen/bar. The food was alright, but the service suffered, as they seemed to be understaffed. When the service came, it was friendly and helpful. It was a matter of having enough staff, but the staff there was good.

On the whole, I find the QF/Oneworld LAX business lounge to be a much slicker operation.

Between the two, the first class lounge is quieter. The business class lounge is busier and seems to have more/better food options (at least when I was there).

Still, you can’t go wrong in either.
