United Prez: We Will Surpass American & Delta by 2020

by Adam

United president Scott Kirby is positive that his airline will surpass American and Delta in margin by 2020. Kirby says the airline is closing the gap and that he feels more confident each day as he learns more about the progress United is already making. TheStreet reports his confidence:

“We’re going to have the best margin of the big three network carriers,” he said. “{But} it’s not going to happen overnight.”
Kirby’s comments came after he brushed off a first quarter that was weaker than both AA & DL, noting that the discrepancy was due to the fact that UA lacks a southeast hub to carry traffic to popular winter destinations. He also noted that United currently has higher labor costs, but that Delta will see big increases come April. Delta flight attendants and ground staff are scheduled to receive pay increases on April 1st.

Kirby must have been smoking somethig becasue its just not gonna happen. Ever.

Most likely, he has some some stock options vesting soon and needs a pop in the stock. He isn’t going to fool Wall Street, though. They have all been subject to United’s ridiculous operations at EWR and know better.
