❝ The lounge was beautiful. Staff were friendly but clearly overwhelmed. ❞
Happy Friday, Readers!
United opened its Newark (EWR) Polaris lounge earlier this June after months – years, rather – of anticipation. The 27,000 square foot lounge seats about 450 travelers. United opened its Houston Polaris lounge today, making it the fourth lounge in United’s network. The Los Angeles Polaris lounge is set to open “sometime this year.”

Let’s take a look inside, with photos and comments courtesy of a Point Me reader.
Like the Polaris lounges in Chicago, Houston, and San Francisco, Newark offers a sit-down meal service. Dinner entrees include:
• Wild mushroom risotto
• Moroccan-spiced braised lamb
• Seared fresh cod
• United Polaris burger
The lounge also has an extensive “bistro-like buffet” and bar with signature cocktails. Other amenities include 10 daybeds with Saks bedding and 10 shower suites with SoHo House Cowshed bath amenities.
“The lounge is worth visiting just to see the shower suites,” writes our Point Me reader. “I like the brand continuity from shower-to-seat with the Cowshed products.”
“If one used their imagination…they might think this was a Singapore Airlines lounge,” our reader notes. Visually, speaking, that is.
“The service was definitely well-intentioned, especially for United.” When interviewing our Point Me reader, he mentioned the staff seemed overwhelmed, but that’s to be expected with a new product launch.
“And then reality hits you with a meatball – one to be exact.”
Customers around me seemed relatively forgiving of simple mistakes and slow service. I think everyone understands new lounge openings can be difficult. At least they smiled!
Bottom line, the lounge is a massive upgrade for Newark travelers. Is it the nicest lounge in the world? No. But it’s a solid product for a US airline.
