American Airlines has cut more than 90% of New York City flights for at least a month because of the coronavirus.
On Sunday, American Airlines announced it was slashing its flights to the New York City area by more than 90%. This is direct reaction to New York City as a coronavirus hotspot. This made flight loads remarkably low; in an already depressed market.
New York State had more than 120,000 reported cases of COVID2019, the coronavirus. New York City reported more than 67,500 cases with 2,472 deaths.
In a memo to the airlines employees, David Seymour, American’s senior vice president of operations, wrote:

Limited Flights to/from NYC
The carrier will operate 8 flights from LaGuardia Airport, down from about 170 in April a year ago, and just 3 flights from JFK; down from 80 departures in the same period last year.
JetBlue Airways and United Airlines already announced drastically reduced NYC-area services.
The Upshot
Let this sink in: For the first time in 80 years, American Airlines won’t have a nonstop flight between Los Angeles and New York City!
With drastic cuts by all of the major domestic carriers, one has to ask again if President Trump May Ban Domestic Flights to Curb Coronavirus?
