As Black Lives Matter protests roil cities across the United States and the world, a pilot seems to have drawn a fist in the sky as a gesture of solidarity to protestors today.
Black Lives Matter Solidarity In The Air
The piece of space art was created this afternoon in about two hours by a pilot who took off from Halifax airport and proceeded to draw a fist in the skies above Nova Scotia.
We don’t know what the pilot’s intentions were, but given the protests that have been happening in every state and around the world, it’s fair to guess what was top of his mind when he flew a route representing a symbol of solidarity in the wake of the protests.
Even as the Coronavirus pandemic has roiled the industry, the Black Lives Matter has also affected airlines. Recently, we saw the heartfelt story of American Airlines CEO Doug Parker sparking a connection with a Southwest flight attendant by reading the book White Fragility, which discusses how white people can help contribute to the fight against racism.

The Upshot
Even though this gesture of solidarity may seem small, as come to terms as a society with the insidious racism that black people have faced, every action matters.
We don’t know who anonymous pilot who chose to fly this route was but the plane appears to be a Cirrus SR22-G2. If you have any more information about the pilot or flight, please let us know! In the meantime, thank you to the anonymous pilot for taking action in solidarity.
Tip of the hat to Peter Aldhous
