British Passport Changes from Red to Blue with Brexit

This new decade also begins a new era for Britain. Britain formally left the EU yesterday, January 31, 2020. The European Union (EU) has been in existence for 46 years. Britain is the first country to leave the EU, leaving behind 27 other countries. Wondering what this historic change means for passports and for travel to Britain?

During your travels, you may have noticed that the Euro-conforming passport cover is red. With the change in Britain’s EU status, so comes a change in passport colors. The new British passport cover is blue. However, the passport size and shape will remain the same.

Will traveling to Britain and Europe be changed by Britain’s EU departure?

Entering and exiting Britain or Europe remains the same because Britain never joined the Schengen zone.

The European Union never dictated to member nations the colour of passports, burgundy is not compulsory Croatia for example isn’t burgundy.
