Two JetBlue flight attendants have sued the airline and two of its pilots in federal court. The claims against the two pilots are quite serious and include aggravated sexual abuse, assault and battery, sex discrimination and civil rights violations.
The two female cabin crew members allege that while on an overnight layover last year in San Juan, Puerto Rico, two pilots drugged them, with one pilot raping one of the women as well as another co-worker who is not part of the lawsuit.
According to The New York Times, the two women (along with a third female coworker) met the pilots on a beach in San Juan where they were offered beers that were allegedly laced with a drug. The lawsuit claims that they became incapacitated and were taken to the InterContinental Hotel, where one of the pilots then raped one of the plaintiffs and the third woman.
According to the lawsuit, all three women worked on a flight the next day before reporting the incident. JetBlue is being sued for negligence and failing to take action after the incident was reported.
A spokesperson for JetBlue said in a statement that the airline
…takes allegations of violent or inappropriate behavior very seriously and investigates such claims thoroughly. We work to create a respectful workplace for all our crew members where they feel welcome and safe.
This is a serious claim and one that will sure put a spotlight on pilot and cabin crew relations, particularly at JetBlue.
