Full List: Redeem IHG Points for Kimpton Hotels

by Enoch

IHG announced that they were going to buy Kimpton Hotels back in 2014, and finally announced that they are rolling Kimpton’s Karma Rewards loyalty program into the IHG Rewards Club program late 2017. Kimpton has a pretty diehard fan base, with customers who like their boutique, somewhat quirky properties in larger cities. Kimpton’s footprint is mostly in the United States, with just two foreign hotels currently located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.

Today, Kimpton’s portfolio of 60+ hotels are finally loaded in IHG’s system and able to book on points. The costs range from 40,000 to 70,000 points per night, which I think is mostly in line with the quality of Kimpton hotels. You will find properties in cities like Baltimore and Cleveland requiring fewer points, while hotels in cities like New York and Los Angeles might be toward the higher end of the spectrum.

There are some nice value to be had here. For example, you can redeem 50,000 points for the Kimpton DeWitt Amsterdam Hotel, the only Kimpton hotel in Europe (that’s actually converted from a Crowne Plaza). In contrast, the InterContinental Amstel in Amsterdam is going up to 60,000 points a night come January 16, 2018, so the Kimpton represents a good alternative.

Final Thoughts

IHG is devaluing their Rewards Club by increasing the cost of almost 500 hotels come January 16, 2018. None of the Kimpton hotels were included in the list, so I anticipate the rates above will be here to stay—at least for the year.

I am glad to see that redemption for free nights at Kimpton Hotels are finally possible, and these rates seem pretty reasonable. Of course, with any redemption, it’s always worthwhile to compare between using points and paying cash outright, and this is no exception. Still, I think even at the highest end of the list, there are some good value to be had, especially during peak seasons.
