Uber is offering 2-week and 4-week passes for unlimited UberPOOL rides in Manhattan, for travels starting October 31, 2016. Only rides between Monday and Friday, from 6 am to 8 pm are eligible. Trips also have to both begin and end in Manhattan, below 125th street.
There are two versions of the passes available, for 2 weeks or 4 weeks. Here are the current prices, but Uber said that the program is under beta, so prices might change over time.
- 2-Week Pass: $59, for October 31 – November 11
- 4-Week Pass: $89, for October 31 – November 25
$89 is a pretty great price for a 4-week pass. If you use UberPOOL to commute exclusively on weekdays, that’s about 40 rides. That amounts to just $2.25 per ride, which is even cheaper than taking the subway! Throw in a few early dinners and you can really come out ahead.
For those unfamiliar, UberPOOL is basically shared UberX rides. You punch in your origin and destination, and Uber will pair you with other riders who are going in the same direction. As a result, you might have to walk to a meeting point for pickup, or walk 2 – 3 blocks after getting off the ride. However, there is significant savings over the traditional UberX rides, so it’s worth considering if you’re not in a hurry.
