Top 20 International Airlines – Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards

Condé Nast Traveler has revealed the results of their 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards…and of course I skipped right over to the “Top International Airlines” section. Singapore is once again number one, though there were a few interesting surprises (see Porter and El Al.

  1.  Singapore Airlines

Singapore has ranked no. 1 for 27 of 28 years of RCA survey results—for good reason. It elevates service and comfort, making a 19-hour direct flight from Newark to Singapore (one we used to take regularly before it ended) an enjoyable experience—in coach! The flight attendants seem to anticipate your needs, swooping in to shut off the air above you only as your hand starts to rise, and soon, the new Premium Economy seats will make a long-haul flight a welcome excuse for a thick fleece blanket, French champagne, and a proper nap.

  2. Emirates
  3. Qatar Airways
  4. Virgin Atlantic
  5. Etihad
  6. JAL
  7. Korean Air
  8. Air New Zealand
  9. Porter Airlines

A regional airline serving Canada and the United States, Porter Airlines is based at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and works as a reliable city shuttle between diverse destinations like Boston, Charleston, and Myrtle Beach. Its planes are all Canadian-built Bombardier Dash-8 Q 400 turboprop aircraft. Customers rave about the airline’s free Wi-Fi; refreshments, like soda, juice, and snacks; and they offer a complimentary glass of wine, even on short flights. Wonderful customer service is what keeps fliers coming back.

  10. Cathay Pacific
  11. ANA
  12. Thai
  13. EVA Air
  14. Asiana
  15. Qantas
  16. Turkish
  17. Swiss
  18. El Al

It’s no secret that El Al has gourmet-level kosher meals. But food preferences aside, there are plenty of great reasons to fly El Al, including an iPad rental program, an app that allows you to choose in-flight entertainment options ahead of time, and a range of Israeli wines that will put the Manischewitz to shame. The airline is also working with tech startups through its Cockpit entrepreneurship program, so be on the lookout for even more tech innovations soon.

  19. Virgin Australia
  20. Finnair

Check out the full summary for each of the above carriers to learn how and why they earned their ranking within the list.
